Stranger consoles car crash victim until help arrives
Nathaniel Bunn held the hand of the trapped woman until paramedics arrived.
A car crash in Pittsburgh left a woman trapped in her car. Several people were rushing to help her get out, including 39-year-old Nathaniel Bunn, a father of seven sons. His dad and one of his sons tried to pull the door open. Two other men helped, as Bunn later told local TV station Live 5 News. They also used a crowbar, he said. But despite all efforts they couldn’t get the door open. The vehicle rolled on its roof during the crash and the door was stuck.
So Bunn decided to sit down next to the trapped woman and hold her hand. “I sat with her until the ambulance came and let her squeeze my hand for reassurance," he said. The woman did not make any noise, Bunn remembered, but held his hand tight. So he told her that it would be okay and that the ambulance was on its way. The 39-year-old man sat with the woman until the first responders arrived and got her out.
Bunn was videotaped by many people, which bothered him. Seeing so many bystanders not helping but rather recording made him sad, he told the TV station. “I was feeling kind of in despair. I don’t feel like that often, just because of how the world is going on,” Bunn said.
He later called the hospital to ask about the woman who was not in critical condition. Her family reached out to him after the story got attention in local news. “They said that she’s forever grateful”, he told a FOX Television Station. Bunn is now celebrated as a hero. “I’m just a great guy doing what I thought was right”, the 39-year-old replies to that. He hopes that his actions inspire people to do right all across the world.
